Three More Countries Seek Prisoner-Transfer Deals With Indonesia | The Jakarta Globe

The Indonesia Reader: History, Culture, Politics (The World Readers)Three More Countries Seek Prisoner-Transfer Deals With Indonesia | The Jakarta Globe: "Besides Australia, three other countries have approached Indonesia for prisoner-transfer arrangements, Justice and Human Rights Minister Patrialis Akbar said on Monday.

'Australia, Hong Kong, Iran and Brazil have conveyed their requests to us,' Patrialis told reporters at the State Palace.

The government, he said, was exploring the proposals given that Indonesia did not have any laws regulating such.

'We're studying it since we don't have a legal framework for this. We could put this in as an amendment to the law on imprisonment,' he added.

Last week, Roger Wilkins, secretary of Australia’s Attorney-General’s Department, met with Attorney General Basrief Arief to discuss a prisoner-transfer agreement that may see convicted drug smuggler Schapelle Corby serving her jail term in her country instead of in a Bali jail."
