Scotland exports more cannabis than it imports as Triad farms grow

The Glasgow DragonScotland exports more cannabis than it imports as Triad farms grow - The Daily Record: "SCOTLAND has become an exporter of cannabis as Triad gangsters launch ever more factories.
Secret court papers show there are now greater quantities of the drug leaving the country than coming in.
Traditionally, most hash bought here has come from countries such as Holland and Jamaica.
But the shock revelation came to light in legal documents relating to a Proceeds of Crime case against a convicted thug suspected of being a Triad gang member.
In the papers against William Wan, a Government lawyer claims: 'It is now well recognised that cannabis is produced in many unlawful factories situated throughout the Central Belt of Scotland and elsewhere.
'The illegal cultivation of cannabis in Scotland is immensely profitable.
'Cannabis cultivation in Scotland is now established to the extent that Scotland is believed to be a net exporter of the drug to other parts of the UK and beyond.'"

Self-Drawings May Reveal Hidden Eating Disorders

Self-Drawings May Reveal Hidden Eating Disorders: "The way women draw themselves may help reveal whether they have an eating disorder, researchers suggest.

They found that women with anorexia or bulimia draw themselves with different characteristics than women without eating disorders.

The study, by Israeli researchers, included 36 women with anorexia or bulimia and 40 women with no eating disorder, half of them overweight and half normal weight. The women were asked to draw themselves, and the researchers found various differences between the groups in four areas:"

Alcohol policy in tatters as health experts revolt

Alcohol policy in tatters as health experts revolt | Society | The Guardian: "The government's 'responsibility' deal on alcohol looks likely to fall apart as health experts, angered by the limited concessions required of the drinks industry, consider walking away from the table.

Caring for Someone with Alcohol Problems (Carers Handbook)The deal, between the industry, the government and health experts – including the chiefs of groups such as Alcohol Concern and the British Liver Trust, as well as senior doctors working on alcohol-related health problems – was billed, when launched last summer, as a fresh, collaborative approach to a serious public health problem.

But an investigation by the Guardian has found that the major issues flagged up by health experts, such as the price of a unit of alcohol and marketing, are not even up for discussion."

Elton John Wants Billy Joel To Clean Himself Up

Piano ManElton John Wants Billy Joel To Clean Himself Up - Phoenix Music - Up on the Sun: "Although they've been good friends for many years, Elton John has finally revealed that he's sick of Billy Joel's light stints in rehab, according to People.

John told Rolling Stone in this week's cover story that he has recently been upset about Billy Joel's unstable lifestyle. He said that they've had to cancel entire tours due to problems that Joel has had.

Elton's giving Billy some tough love and words of encouragement.

'You should be able to do something better than what you're doing now,' John said about Joel.

Thankfully, Billy didn't take his friend's comments the wrong way. Who knows, maybe he'll take Elton's comments to heart. Hopefully Piano Man will pull himself together really soon and even release some new material. It's what Elton John wants for him, anyway."

‘Bath salt’ drugs could enter Canada, experts worry

‘Bath salt’ drugs could enter Canada, experts worry - The Globe and Mail: "An epidemic of “bath salt” abuse is sweeping the United States and some experts worry that it may hit Canada, since the designer drugs are unregulated and available on the Web.

Not actually bath salts, the products labelled Red Dove, Ivory Wave and Hurricane Charlie are also available via small retail outlets to customers, who smoke, snort, inject or eat the chemicals.

The powders’ effects are similar to those of methamphetamine, and can include rapid heart rate, visual hallucinations, paranoia and psychosis, as well as self-mutilation and suicidal thoughts, authorities say.
A man from Fulton, Miss., cut his face and stomach repeatedly after hallucinating on the drugs. In Louisiana, the family of a 21-year-old man says he committed suicide following three days of delirium after he snorted the chemicals, according to the Washington Post."

Bath Salts: A new designer drug hits Belltown

Bath Salts: A new designer drug hits Belltown: "Last week, Curtis Cartier at the Seattle Weekly profiled a 26-year old Belltown bath salt snorter, who offered his advice on using the designer drug that he says has the affect of cocaine, meth, and Adderall/Ritalin combined.

'I had a great time on it,' the Belltown bartender said. 'It picks you up, lets you stay out longer. It's great, just don't do too much.'

'Bath salts'- known on the street as Purple Rain, Ivory Wave, Pure Ivory, and Vanilla Sky - are powerful methamphetamines that are snorted, smoked, or injected by users.

The drugs cause hallucinations, confusion, disorganization, paranoia, rapid heart rate, suicidal thoughts, intense cravings for the drug, and seizures.

There have been reports across the nation of users cutting or killing themselves after using bath salts.

The chemical components found in the drug, MDPV and mephedrone, currently are not regulated by the USDA, as they are not marketed for human consumption. Bath salts can be sold legally at convenience stores and on the internet, although many states are considering a ban on its sale."

Myanmar’s drug ‘exports’ to China test ties

Myanmar’s drug ‘exports’ to China test ties: "Prior to slipping into his role as a legislator, the 51-year-old Kyaw Myint was better known as a junta-backed militia chief “notorious among local people as a drug dealer in the Shan State North’s Namkham township”, reveals the Shan Herald Agency for News (SHAN), a media organization run by journalists from Myanmar’s Shan ethnic minority.

“Many ferry crossings on the Ruli River that serve as a boundary between China and Myanmar are guarded by Kyaw Htwe [also known as Li Yonping], younger brother of Kyaw Myint,” adds SHAN.

Yet this political identity for Kyaw Myint, with the junta’s blessings, will test the growing economic bonds between Myanmar and its giant northeastern neighbor China. According to official figures released by Myanmese officials, China has pumped in over US$8 billion in foreign direct investment this year to tap Myanmar’s resource-rich environment.

The investments by Chinese state-run companies in the oil and gas, hydropower and mining sectors mark a dramatic increase from what Chinese investments were five years ago – some $194 million.

“Myanmar and China have grown closer over the past four years and Beijing is on the verge of displacing Thailand as the country that tops investment in Myanmar,” says a Southeast Asian diplomat who spoke on condition of anonymity."
